  2021 GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Jariq Scales, RB, Southern Arkansas,...In his first season of action since arriving on campus in the fall of 2019, Scales laid claim to the best single-season rushing campaign in program history. In 11 games, the Arkansan recorded 236 carries for a single-season program record 1,477 yards with nine rushing touchdowns. He averaged 134.3 yards per game on the ground and 6.3 yards per carry. He added 11 receptions for 73 yards and a score to push his all-purpose yards per game mark to 140.9.

His season totals in rushing yards and rushing yards per game both rank sixth in Division II through 11 weeks of play. Scales' volume of totes are the third-most in a single season and the most-ever by a running back in SAU's NCAA Era. This season, Scales recorded 100+ rushing yards in seven games and eclipsed the 200-yard mark twice which included a the second-most rushing yards in a single game following a 23-carry, 245-yard rushing showcase in SAU's Murphy USA Classic win over Arkansas Tech. Scales finished second in the GAC in total rushing yards with the second-most rushing yards in a single season in GAC history and third in the league in all-purpose yards for the regular season. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DT - Southern Arkansas - Antonio Washington, Jr., Marshall, TX,...A redshirt junior with a knack for living in opponent's backfields, Washington earned his second-straight first team nod after another dominant campaign disrupting league offenses. He finished the regular season with 12.5 tackles for loss totaling 46 yards; the third-most in the GAC, and his three sacks landed him in the top 15 of the category league-wide. Washington totaled 55 tackles (28 solo, 27 asst.) in 11 games and added seven quarterback hurries, three pass breakups and recovered one fumble.   2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): S - Southern Arkansas - Brock Floyd, So., Frisco, TX,...Considered an all-conference snub by many as a true freshman a year ago, there was no denying Floyd's placement on the GAC's First Team in 2019. As a sophomore roaming the Mulerider secondary, Floyd finished with 61 tackles (32 solo, 29 asst.); one shy of Preston's team-high and the 27th-most in the GAC. In six games, he recorded six or more tackles with a career-high nine coming in a road win over East Central. Floyd added three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 2019 and in a homecoming win over Southeastern Oklahoma, he returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): ILB - Southern Arkansas - Malik Preston, Sr., Shreveport, LA,...A fearsome linebacker, Preston's final year as a Mulerider saw the fifth-year senior land on the league's first team after he led the team in tackles with 62 (33 solo, 29 asst.) in 11 games which ranks 26th in the GAC. Twice he recorded ten or more stops this year with a season-high 12 coming against Harding. Preston added 4.5 tackles for loss totaling 17 yards to go along with four quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, a pass breakup and a blocked kick. Preston's first all-league honor came in 2016 when he was named a second team performer. Following a 2017 season lost to injury, Preston battled back to become an honorable mention selection last fall. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): K - Southern Arkansas - Austin Wilkerson, So., Dallas, TX,...Undoubtedly the top kicker in the Great American Conference, Wilkerson's sophomore season has been a memorable one as he currently, through 11 games, ranks second in the country in field goal percentage (92.9%) after missing just one kick in 14 attempts; a 47-yarder into a slight wind vs. Harding. It's highly likely that many won't remember the lone miss, but it's guaranteed that many won't soon forget his performance in the team's home opener. Wilkerson nailed three field goals against Oklahoma Baptist, including a career-long 48-yarder as time expired to give the Muleriders a 30-28 victory.

For his efforts, Wilkerson was named GAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Wilkerson made his first five field goals of the season and finished the year with eight-straight makes, including four against Northwestern Oklahoma. In 11 games, Wilkerson was perfect inside 40 yards and added makes of 46 and 48 yards. His 7.5 points per game leads all GAC kickers and ranks fifth among all players in the league. Wilkerson's 82 total points rank 50th nationally. His 43 extra points are the fifth most in a single-season in program history, while his 13 field goal makes are tied for third in a single season in program history. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): OL - Southern Arkansas - Mason Grantz, Sr., Bakersfield, CA,...Battling through injury during his senior season, Grantz remained a vital part of the offense as he manned his left tackle spot in protection of first-year starter Hayden Mallory. The honor is the second for Grantz in his two years at SAU after he appeared on the second team following the 2018 regular season. A Super Region 3 nominee for the Gene Upshaw Award, Grantz helped lead a young Mulerider offensive line that has allowed just five sacks in 2019, while also blocking for a Mulerider rushing attack that has totaled 2,050 yards rushing; the third-most under Keopple and the fourth time SAU has eclipsed the 2,000-yard rushing mark since 2009. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): TE - Southern Arkansas - Dalton Wright, Sr., Alba, TX,...A 2018 All-GAC Second Team selection, Wright returns as an all-league pick after proving to be one of the top blocking tight ends in the conference. He joined alongside a Mulerider offensive line as well as being used out of the backfield to block for an offensive attack that churned out over 2,000 yards on the ground. Additionally, Wright caught five passes for 110 yards and a touchdown with a long reception of 71 yards; the second-longest pass play for SAU in 2019. Wright is one of only three tight ends in SAU's Division II Era to be named to multiple all-league teams joining Tanner Hudson and Johnny Fields. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): WR - Southern Arkansas - Jared Lancaster, Sr., Bossier City, LA,...The team's top pass catcher, Lancaster's final season in Magnolia saw the fifth-year senior snag 40 passes for 588 yards and six touchdowns at an average of 14.7 yards per catch. His six touchdown grabs ranks fifth in the GAC. He caught at least five passes in four games this season and in a home win over Oklahoma Baptist, Lancaster hauled in seven passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.   2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): FB - Southern Arkansas - Jaidon Parrish, Sr., Gilmer, TX,...With a jack-of-all-trades deployment out of the Mulerider backfield, Parrish earned his first all-conference selection following a productive campaign in 2019. Parrish caught 14 passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns and totaled 118 yards on 11 kickoff returns. He averaged just under ten yards per reception and in his final home game he caught three passes for 59 yards and two touchdowns. As a blocker, Parrish has helped pave the way for a rushing attack which has seen its top three rushers accumulate at least 395 or more yards on the ground. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): RB - Southern Arkansas - Kor'Davion Washington, Fr., Shreveport, LA,...In his first season carrying the football for the Muleriders, Washington established himself as one of the top young backs in the GAC. His 859 rushing yards are the fourth most in the GAC this season and his 85.9 yards per game on the ground ranks third. Four times Washington went over the 100-yard rushing mark in 2019. He carried 144 times with nine of those attempts finding the end zone. Washington added ten catches for 129 yards and a touchdown and totaled 988 all-purpose yards in ten games which ranks fifth in the GAC. In a road win at Northwestern Oklahoma, Washington rushed 16 times for 145 yards and caught three passes for 67 yards and a touchdown as he totaled a season-best 212 all-purpose yards. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): OL - Southern Arkansas - Austin Patricia, So., Forney, TX,...Patricia's first all-conference honor comes after the sophomore helped the Muleriders engineer one of the more balanced offensive attacks in the GAC. Patricia as well as his all-conference teammates Grantz and Taylor were a part of one of the most productive offensive lines in the country. Currently, the Muleriders rank third nationally in sacks allowed per game (0.45) and tenth nationally in tackles for loss allowed (4.36). Additionally, the Mulerider offense ranks eighth in the nation in third-down conversion (51.7%) and the unit boasts one of the best redzone offenses in the country. The honor is the first for Patricia in his career. The three offensive linemen selected to all-league teams in 2019 are the most for Southern Arkansas since the Muleriders placed three from the 2015 unit on All-GAC teams. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): C - Southern Arkansas - Steven Taylor, Jr., Katy, TX,...Entering the season as the starter at left guard, Taylor was plugged in as the team's center following injuries on the offensive line and he excelled. A redshirt junior, Taylor has helped the Muleriders become one of the more balanced offenses in Keopple's 11 years on the sidelines as the team's 395.5 yards of total offense ranks fifth in the GAC. That total comes as a result of 186.4 yards per game on the ground and 209.2 yards passing; both of which rank fifth in the conference. His efforts up front helped Southern Arkansas place five offensive skill players on all-conference teams. The honor is the first for Taylor in his career. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): UT - Southern Arkansas - Obadiah Jones, Fr., Henderson, TX,...Jones made an immediate impact on the Mulerider offense as the true freshman. In 11 total games, he rushed for 151 yards on 38 carries at 4.0 yards per rush with five touchdowns and in the passing game he recorded 20 catches for 212 yards and two touchdowns. His top rushing performance came on the road at Arkansas Tech as he carried seven times for 42 yards and two touchdowns. At Henderson State, Jones caught a season-high seven passes for 86 yards and a score. He finished sixth on the team in all-purpose yards with 363. - Southern Arkansas Football

  2019 AFCA DIVISION II COACHES' SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: DL Antonio Washington, R-Jr., Southern Arkansas,...An All-GAC First Team selection in both 2018 and 2019, Washington continued his knack for living in opponent's backfields this fall and his impact on the Mulerider defensive front has been immense. In 11 regular season starts, Washington recorded the third-most tackles on the team with 55 total stops (28 solo, 27 ast) and posted the third-most tackles for loss in the GAC at 12.5, including three sacks. In three years, Washington has totaled 30.0 tackles for loss totaling 111 yards.

Additionally, Washington, who is a nominee for the 2019 Cliff Harris Award which is given to the nation's top small college defensive player, added seven quarterback hurries, three pass breakups and recovered one fumble. Washington recorded six or more tackles in six games this season and posted two games with at least 3.0 tackles for loss including a career-best effort of 3.5 TFL in a home victory over Oklahoma Baptist. - Southern Arkansas Football
